New YASKAWA logo to mark 100th company anniversary

Momentum for the Future

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, YASKAWA has renewed its logo: the word mark design has been revamped to reflect a more dynamic and creative style, while the blue corporate color will continue to stand for trust and stability. The renewed logo combines both the successful track record of the past and the aspiration of the Japanese company for the future: leveraging the flexibility and creativity of its employees to develop customer solutions for the next century.

The company was founded in Kitakyushu, Japan, in 1915. Today, Yaskawa Electric Corporation generates annual sales of over 360 billion Yen (approx. 2.8 billion Euros), and is a leading global manufacturer of servo drives, converters and industrial robots. The term “mechatronics”, a popular word in many languages today, was invented by Yaskawa in 1969 and registered as a trade mark. With over 300,000 manufactured Motoman industrial robots, the company is considered the number one producer in this segment.

In 1979 Yaskawa founded a European subsidiary. Today’s Yaskawa Europe GmbH, based in Eschborn near Frankfurt comprises three Divisions: Drives & Motions (drive & control, linear technologies), Robotics (industrial robots), and Vipa (automation & control technology). Approximately 1,400 employees are responsible for servicing the markets of Europe, Africa, Middle East, and the territory of the former Soviet Union.

The European headquarters of the Robotics Division is located in Allershausen near Munich. For more than 30 years the site has been developing plants and systems with Motoman robots, designed to satisfy the requirements of demanding and sophisticated customers. Initially operating under the roof of Motoman robotec GmbH, the organization was taken over by Yaskawa in 1994. In 2012, the Robotics division relocated to today’s representative modern premises in Allershausen. The building stands out as a landmark visible from afar. It features acreage of 14,400 square meters and is conveniently located next to the A9 motorway.

Further milestones of Yaskawa’s recent history were the foundation of subsidiaries in South Africa (2012) and Turkey (2013). In October 2014 Yaskawa acquired The Switch Engineering Cooperation whose focus is on supplying components for wind power plants. In September 2013 Yaskawa entered a strategic partnership with Argo Medical Technologies, the producer of the “ReWalk” exoskeleton system for people with handicaps of the lower extremities.

Yaskawa Europe will begin to celebrate their 100-year anniversary and the launch of Yaskawa’s new corporate logo during Hannover Exhibition HMI 2015 in Hannover from April 13 to April 17. The company will present its offering at the Vipa division stand. An additional special exhibition on the trade fair grounds features 100 years of company history from its very beginnings to “Industry 4.0” and the “Future Factory”.
